What actually moves the price

  • Panel and inverter brand/tier. ALMM-listed panels (required for subsidy eligibility) and reputable inverter brands cost more than unbranded alternatives, but generally last longer and perform more consistently over 25 years.   • Roof type and mounting structure. A flat RCC roof with clear access is the simplest and cheapest to mount on. Sloped roofs, tin sheds, or roofs needing structural reinforcement or elevated stands add to the cost.
  • System size. Cost per kW usually drops slightly as system size increases, since fixed costs (labour, wiring, net meter application) are spread across more capacity.
  • Distance from main panel to meter/DISCOM connection point. Longer cable runs and more complex wiring add material and labour cost.
  • Shading and layout complexity. A roof with chimneys, water tanks or partial shading may need micro-inverters or optimisers to avoid one shaded panel dragging down the whole string, this adds cost but protects overall output.
