Solar Power for Rice Mills & Factories in Maharajganj

Why rice mills are a genuinely good solar fit
A rice mill or agro-processing unit typically runs its heaviest load during daylight operating hours, exactly when solar generation peaks. That means a well-sized system offsets grid consumption directly, with less dependence on net metering export than a household with a smaller daytime load. On UPPCL's LMV-6 (Small & Medium Power/Industrial) tariff, the fixed charge runs ₹290 per kW per month with an energy charge of roughly ₹7.30 per unit, materially higher than residential LMV-1 rates, which is exactly what makes daytime self-consumption from solar more valuable for a mill than for a typical home.
The subsidy math is different here
An LMV-6 industrial connection isn't eligible for the residential PM Surya Ghar or UPNEDA subsidy, that scheme is for LMV-1 domestic connections. Instead, the ROI comes from two other levers: accelerated depreciation under Section 32 of the Income Tax Act, which lets a business claim 40% depreciation on the system's value in year one if commissioned with enough of the financial year remaining (our accelerated depreciation calculator works out the exact numbers), and, for larger or open-access setups, the UP Solar Energy Policy 2022's 10-year electricity duty exemption on captive-consumed solar power. Neither of these depends on where in UP the mill is located, but they matter more here specifically because of how much of Maharajganj's commercial activity is exactly this kind of daytime-heavy industrial load.
