How to Choose a Solar Installer in Gorakhpur

A 25-year investment shouldn't be decided on price alone. Here's what actually matters.

Rooftop solar is one of the few home or business upgrades meant to last a quarter-century. That makes the installer you choose arguably more important than the exact brand of panel, since the same panel installed poorly will underperform for decades. Here's what's actually worth checking before you sign anything.

1. Confirm they're an empanelled vendor

For residential subsidy eligibility, installation must be done by a vendor registered on the official state-wise empanelled list. This isn't optional paperwork: it's what determines whether you can actually claim the subsidy at all. You can check any installer's empanelment status yourself on the official registered vendor list before committing to anything.

In Gorakhpur specifically, it's worth also checking the installer against UPNEDA's own state registration, not just the national list, see our guide to verifying a UPNEDA-registered vendor in Gorakhpur for exactly how.

2. Ask exactly who handles the paperwork

Portal registration, DISCOM coordination, net metering applications and subsidy claim follow-up (see our subsidy process guide) is genuinely tedious government process work. Some installers leave this to the customer, or charge extra for it. Ask directly: is this included, and who follows up if the DISCOM is slow to respond? An installer who proactively chases approvals on your behalf, rather than just filing and waiting, makes a real difference to how long the whole process takes.

3. Understand what warranty you're actually getting

"25-year warranty" gets used loosely in sales conversations, but there are genuinely different warranties involved, a panel performance warranty (gradual output degradation over time), a shorter panel product warranty (manufacturing defects), and a separate, usually shorter, inverter warranty. Ask for these in writing, not just verbally, and understand which one is being referred to when someone says "25 years." Our maintenance guide breaks down what each of these actually covers.

4. Insist on a proper site visit before a firm quote

Roof type, shading pattern through the day, distance to your meter, and structural condition all affect both cost and expected output, none of which can be accurately assessed from a phone call or a photo. Be cautious of installers willing to give a fixed, final quote without ever seeing your roof.

5. Check what happens after installation

Ask what ongoing support looks like once the system is commissioned, is there someone to call if the inverter throws an error, or if generation unexpectedly drops? A system that's installed and then never followed up on tends to accumulate small, fixable issues that quietly reduce output over the years.

Red flags worth taking seriously

  • Demanding full payment upfront, before any site visit or signed agreement.
  • No clear, written warranty terms, only verbal assurances.
  • Can't confirm empanelment status when asked directly, or gets vague about it.
  • Quoting a price significantly below the typical market range (see our cost guide) with no clear explanation of what's different about their components or process.
